Medical Office Assistant (Front and Back Office)


Position Summary: 
The Medical Office Assistant will support the Blue Sky Neurology Inpatient division. This position is responsible for front and back office duties including, but not limited to greeting patients, answering phone calls, rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, and obtaining any necessary records for a smooth patient experience.
Position Requirements:

  • Education: 
    • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience:
    • Medical assisting certification preferred
    • Minimum of two years of medical assisting or medical office experience preferred
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Medical terminology
    • Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and multi-task
    • Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment
    • Microsoft Office, EMR, and other medical software experience preferred
Job Responsibilities:
  • Greet all incoming patients
  • Answer phone calls, direct calls to appropriate party, return calls, and respond to voicemails
  • Schedule and confirm appointments
  • Enter patient information into practice software
  • Verify insurance and collect and post payments
  • Submit billing information to billing providers
  • Administrative functions to support clinic, including but not limited to:
    • Data entry
    • Photocopying
    • Prior authorizations
    • Faxing
    • Obtaining records
  • Coordinate telephone communication with patients, families, referring providers and other members of the health team and utilizing follow-up system to assure care follow up and coordination is accomplished
  • Utilize scripted call backs to relay messages from the clinical licensed professional
  • Assist with preparing patients for examination
  • Obtain patient medical history
  • Obtain vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height and weight)
  • Document results and patient information in appropriate systems and/or EMR
  • Review medication list and history and physical form prior to patient seeing the physician
  • Instruct patients with follow-up instructions as necessary
  • Contact patients regarding test results or for other related reasons
  • Perform clerical duties necessary for the physicians to see patients
  • Schedule and obtain authorizations for diagnostic tests at physician's request
  • Other duties as assigned
