Guy Jones: We have so many doctors here at Mountain Ridge that are extremely talented, and there were a lot of submissions for provider of the year. So the submissions primarily come from our staff and other providers in the building, and so it isn't just the C-suite choosing who these doctors are—it's the reputation that they've built up within the facility. And Pramod is, I think, probably the most high-touch doctor that we have in the hospital. He's throughout the entire facility, he oversees the largest program that we have at the hospital with the ER service line, and through all of his communication and relationships with both staff and providers throughout the hospital, he was clearly the selected winner for this last year.

Dr. Adam Weingart: Pramod, he does three things. One: clinical excellence and decision-making; calm under pressure; and then most importantly, he uses the best practices—the most modern practices—so he's up to date on how we want to treat our patients. He's able to balance that with some of the metrics that we look at from both the hospital and from CarePoint, so physician metrics. He's able to meld the two and make sure that the patients are receiving the best care, and he does it in a compassionate way so that they are leaving this hospital better than the way they came in.

Dr. Pramod Vangeti: What makes the Mountain Ridge ER special is, frankly, the people that work there. It's very easy. Obviously, I have a strong affection for the doctors and the PAs that work there and that are part of the CarePoint team, but it's everyone that drives the care that we do and allows us to want to take care of the patients the way we can and come back to work. So that's nursing staff, the leaders, medics, techs, secretaries, and even the ancillary staff that comes into our ED. I think we just do a great job as a team to take care of the patients that we have. That's what I'm most proud of.

Dr. Vangeti: What I want them to feel when I walk into the room is just that they're going to be cared for. We might not in the ED ever have all the answers, but we're going to try and we care. Whatever their concern is, we want to make sure they're heard and validated and then make a plan of care that makes sense for everyone, and try to meet their expectations with that. But most importantly, when a patient comes to the ER, whatever you feel the complaint is, they need to know that you care.

Guy: I think Pramod is pragmatic in his approach. He's well-thought and well-read, and he considers a lot of different viewpoints when he's making decisions. And so, because he oversees the ER, which is sort of the foundation of this hospital, his ability to see outside of just his department and understand the connection of his role with the providers at CarePoint and how they interact with the other subspecialties in the hospital has been key. And then, with that, I think just his connectivity, so his engagement and involvement. He's at all of the meetings for the hospital, he's engaged with all the service lines, and I think he's accessible for everybody. And so, people know that if they need something from Pramod or from CarePoint, they can go to him and get it done.

Dr. Vangeti: Especially in the ER, I think more so than any other place in a hospital, it's the ultimate team sport. We're all there together, face-to-face, interacting, and it's also so many moving parts that are involved in the patient care. So obviously a lot of focus is on the clinicians, whether it's the doctors, the PAs, the nursing staff, and all of them are clearly important parts of the team, but you have your paramedics that help with the care, the techs. As I said, the secretaries in the ER really help coordinate and make sure everyone is organized and helping with the things in the background that you are thankful you don't have to take care of yourself. But then we also have other service lines that we're dependent on—those that run our labs, those that perform the imaging on these patients, the EMS teams that come in and bring the patients in. Everybody's important. There's no part of the team that's not. Our environmental services that helps clean the room so that we can get another patient in there—huge part of the team. So there's so many unsung heroes, I hope I listed them all, but if I didn't, I appreciate them all.

Dr. Vangeti: I'm really thankful and appreciative for winning the Physician of the Year award at Mountain Ridge. I certainly don't take it lightly, and I'm thankful for those that considered me for the position. I very much feel it is not just a reflection of me, though. It's a reflection of the entire emergency department—the entire team, the CarePoint team of docs and PAs, the work that we do in collaboration with the nursing team and everybody else. To me, the award as a leader of that department, it's still a reflection of the work and teamwork of everyone.
