CarePoint Health Board Chairman Mark Bair, MD, RPh, Invited to China to Attend First-Ever Exchange between American College of Emergency Physicians and Chinese College of Emergency Physicians

CarePoint Health Board Chairman and longtime Emergency Medicine Physician Mark Bair, MD, RPh, was one of just five people invited to attend — and present at — the first-ever international exchange between the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and China’s equivalent organization, the Chinese College of Emergency Physicians (CCEP). The Annual Meeting took place July 24-27, 2024, at the Guiyang International Conference and Exhibition Centre in Guiyang, China.

At the meeting, the attendees shared insights on practice styles, current standards of care in their respective countries, and approaches to physician education. Dr. Bair described the four-day gathering as a promising first step toward long-term collaboration between the two nations.

Dr. Bair accompanied ACEP President Aisha Terry, MD; ACEP Past President Christopher Kang, MD; ACEP International Emergency Medicine Section Chair James Moak, MD; and ACEP International Emergency Medicine Section Lead Ambassador to China Li Jia, MD, at the event.

Dr. Bair gave a presentation titled “Emergency Medicine Current Topics: A Clinician’s Point of View,” during which he talked about Emergency Medicine work environments in the U.S., key legislative issues, artificial intelligence, burnout, and many other important topics.

Dr. Bair, who also serves as Medical Director for the Mountain View Hospital (Payson, UT) Emergency Department as well as Emergency Medical Services Director for seven EMS agencies, is no stranger to achieving at a high level. The accolades and awards he’s earned over his more than 30 years in medicine are numerous, including:

  • Hero of Emergency Medicine (ACEP)
  • Medical Professional of the Year (Utah Association of Emergency Medical Technicians)
  • Utah Emergency Physician of the Year (Utah State Bureau of EMS)
  • Peak Award (HCA Mountain Division)
  • Outstanding Leadership Award in Healthcare (Health 2.0)

Additionally, Dr. Bair has served as President of the Utah Medical Association and Chairperson of the AMA Young Physician Section. He’s the Past Chair of the AMA Council on Constitution and Bylaws and a delegate to the AMA from Utah.

Dr. Bair graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is board-certified in both Emergency Medicine and Clinical Informatics.
