Ramnik “Ricky” Dhaliwal, MD, JD, CarePoint Health’s Director of Government Affairs, recently won the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Colorado chapter’s inaugural “Champion of Leadership and Advocacy” award.

The award, which recognizes a Colorado ACEP member who is a “dedicated and innovative champion through their leadership and legislative advocacy for Emergency Medicine and the patients for which we care,” according to Colorado ACEP President Rebecca Kornas, MD, was presented to Dr. Dhaliwal at Colorado ACEP’s annual meeting on Jan. 25, 2024, at Logan Street Restaurant in Denver.

Immediate past Colorado ACEP President Anna Engeln, MD, said this as she presented the award to Dr. Dhaliwal: “It is my honor to present this award in its inaugural year to Dr. Ricky Dhaliwal. This award is in gratitude for your tireless advocacy for Emergency Medicine. Dr. Dhaliwal has been a member of COACEP since he arrived in Colorado in 2016, serving as president in 2021, and has led our COACEP into being the specialty chapter that our legislators look to for innovative solutions and thoughtful opinions when creating the legislation that will impact our specialty and patients.

“Dr. Dhaliwal, in addition to completing an EM/IM residency, is also a JD — expertise that has been invaluable when navigating potential legislation and bills. On behalf of COACEP, thank you for helping empower our chapter’s ability to impart impactful change. Your leadership has inspired many, myself very much included. Thank you, Dr. Dhaliwal, for all you have done to promote the issues that impact Emergency Medicine and our patients.”
