CarePoint’s Dr. Eric Hill Receives Colorado ACEP’s “Physician Advocate Award”
February 03, 2025
CarePoint Emergency Medicine Physician Eric Hill, MD, FACEP, FAEMS, has received the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Colorado Chapter’s “Physician Advocate Award” for his “unrelenting dedication to the practice of medicine and extraordinary personal commitment to championing Colorado’s EMS system.”
Outgoing ACEP Colorado Chapter President Dr. Rebecca Kornas presented the award to Dr. Hill at the organization’s annual meeting on January 23, 2025, in Denver, calling him a “leader and an innovator.”
Dr. Hill, who served as a Major in the US Army before returning to Colorado, has been with CarePoint since 2013 and has an extensive background in EMS. He serves as the EMS Medical Director for multiple EMS agencies in Colorado, including Aurora Fire Rescue, Falck Rocky Mountain, HCA HealthONE Aurora, and several rural fire districts.
While completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Dr. Hill worked as a paramedic, firefighter, and EMS supervisor for several fire departments in Boulder County. He went on to work as a paramedic for New Orleans EMS while attending medical school.
The ACEP recognition for Dr. Hill comes only a few months after he was elected as Chair of the State Emergency Medical and Trauma Services Advisory Council (SEMTAC), to which he was appointed by Colorado Governor Jared Polis in 2019. SEMTAC advises the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) in developing, implementing, and improving emergency medical and trauma services statewide. Dr. Hill is serving in his sixth and final year on the council.
In Dr. Hill’s time with SEMTAC, the council has created new regulations for freestanding emergency departments, created the first-ever rules for ground ambulance licensing at the state level, approved several million dollars in grant requests for Colorado EMS agencies, and advised CDPHE on rebuilding EMS and trauma systems after the COVID-19 pandemic, among many other programs.
Dr. Hill was elected as President of the Colorado Chapter of the National Association of EMS Physicians in November 2024 and will serve for the next two years.
Dr. Hill has been responding to national disasters since 2015 as a Medical Officer on the Colorado Disaster Medical Assistance Team and to international disasters since 2018 as a volunteer medical director with the Team Rubicon International Medical Team.
Dr. Hill graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. He was on active duty in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 2006-2013. He served as a brigade surgeon to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division and was deployed to Baghdad from 2009-2010 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
