Delta Health, which has been serving the communities of Colorado’s Western Slope for over a century, has chosen CarePoint to lead and staff its emergency department.

Approximately 15,000 patients are seen annually at the Delta ED, which is now staffed by 20 CarePoint clinicians.

John Winkler, MD, who joined CarePoint in 2012, is the ED’s interim medical director. An experienced emergency medicine physician, Dr. Winkler has practiced at HCA HealthONE Swedish in Englewood, CO (2012-2020), HCA HealthONE Aurora in Aurora, CO (2020-2022), and Mountain View Hospital in Payson, UT (2021-present).

Dr. Winkler graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his residency at the University of Arizona, where he was chief resident. He’s also a certified peer support specialist on CarePoint’s Provider Wellness Committee and has been a member of CarePoint’s Practice Committee since 2023.

“I’m passionate about taking care of the emergency department team to help provide excellent and compassionate care to patients and their families,” Dr. Winkler said.

Added CarePoint Vice President of Operations Kyler Brady: “We’re honored to serve the rural community. Our clinicians truly value working at our rural sites, and the support we’ve received from both the hospital and the community has been incredible. That support enables us to deliver the exceptional care patients deserve.”

With the addition of Delta, CarePoint now staffs 17 EDs across Colorado. In total, CarePoint clinicians provide emergency care at 46 EDs across five states and care for nearly 1 million patients each year.
