CarePoint Health Emergency Medicine Physician Eric Hill, MD, FACEP, FAEMS, has been elected Chair of the governor-appointed State Emergency Medical and Trauma Services Advisory Council (SEMTAC) for his sixth and final year on the council. His term runs from July 2024 through July 2025.

SEMTAC’s 25 members and seven nonvoting (ex-officio) members represent the interests of citizens and emergency medical service (EMS) providers. The council advises the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) in developing, implementing, and improving emergency medical and trauma services statewide.

All voting SEMTAC members are appointed by the governor for a three-year term and can be reappointed one time for an additional three-year term.

Dr. Hill was first appointed to the council in 2019. He was reappointed in July 2022 and was Vice Chair the last two years.

In Dr. Hill’s time with SEMTAC, the council has:

  • Created and passed the initial regulations for freestanding emergency departments; previously, those regulations didn’t exist
  • Created and passed new regulations for ground ambulance licensing at the state level; previously, those regulations had been administered at the county level
  • Approved trauma center designations and made recommendations to CDPHE for their adoption
  • Reviewed and approved several million dollars in grant requests for Colorado EMS agencies each year
  • Helped advise CDPHE on rebuilding EMS and trauma systems after the COVID-19 pandemic

Dr. Hill and his fellow SEMTAC members also work directly with the Colorado legislature as part of a five-year EMS System Sustainability Task Force.

Before joining CarePoint in 2013, Dr. Hill was an active-duty physician in the U.S. Army for seven years. He has also been an EMS Medical Director for several EMS agencies since 2014.

Dr. Hill graduated from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA, and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.

We’re extremely proud of and thankful for all our Emergency Medicine clinicians and the life-changing work they do every day.
