CarePoint Health is now providing physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) services at Swedish Medical Center (Englewood, CO).

Effective January 19, 2024, CarePoint assumed control of the contract to provide PM&R care and medical director services at the large hospital located less than 10 miles south of downtown Denver.

Established CarePoint physician Joseph Connor, MD, has assumed the PM&R medical director role at Swedish.

The addition of the Swedish contract establishes CarePoint as the leading PM&R provider in the Denver metro area by far as CarePoint had already been providing PM&R care at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center (Denver, CO), Sky Ridge Medical Center (Lone Tree, CO), Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital (Aurora, CO), and The Medical Center of Aurora (Aurora, CO).

“This is an exciting addition for CarePoint as Swedish is both a Level I Trauma Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center,” said CarePoint CEO Mark Kozlowski, MD. “Like CarePoint, Swedish is committed to providing high-quality care in a patient-centered environment. This partnership makes a lot of sense.”

In 2023, nearly 800 patients were admitted to Swedish’s PM&R unit, which recently expanded from 27 to 40 beds. A grand opening for the new space, which includes a new therapy gym, took place on January 24, 2024.

This expansion will have a broad impact. Namely, it will improve the care received by hundreds of Swedish patients every year as rehabilitation and therapy are often the final steps for people who receive care from the hospital’s neurology, trauma, orthopedic, spine, burn, oncology, and critical care specialists.

With the addition of the Swedish contract, Scott Press, MD, joins CarePoint’s PM&R team, led by Dr. Connor. Dr. Press was the medical director of Swedish’s PM&R unit from 2014-2021. Dr. Press graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his PM&R residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Dr. Connor and several other established CarePoint PM&R providers — Mitchell Burke, MD; Xiaomeng Li, MD; Andy Olsen, DO; and Madison Craver, PA — will assist Dr. Press at Swedish.

CarePoint is actively recruiting for a physiatrist and a part-time advanced practice provider for its PM&R division.
