CarePoint Health Emergency Medicine Physician Robert Grow, MD, has been named EMS Emergency Physician of the Year by the Utah Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) and the Utah Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. Dr. Grow was recognized at an awards ceremony in May at the Loveland Living Aquarium in Draper, UT.

A CarePoint Physician since 2008, Dr. Grow practices in the Ogden Regional Medical Center (Ogden, UT) and Holy Cross Hospital - Davis (Layton, UT) emergency departments and serves as Medical Director for several air ambulance services, EMS agencies, and fire departments, including the Ogden City Fire Department.

“Dr. Grow is a truly exceptional emergency physician who consistently exemplifies the highest standards of patient care, professionalism, and leadership,” Ogden Fire Deputy Chief Mike Slater said in a press release. “His dedication and contributions have significantly improved the quality of care provided to patients in Weber County.”

Dr. Grow was instrumental in helping Ogden Fire develop response plans and safety guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. “His experience in pathology helped keep our community and first responders safe,” Slater said of Dr. Grow.

Dr. Grow also played a pivotal role in revamping Ogden Fire’s cardiac arrest program. His work helped the department increase the prehospital return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) by over 15% and the discharge of patients with good to moderate cerebral perfusion by 8%. “These are lives saved,” according to a press release issued by HHS. “This would not have happened without Dr. Grow’s dedication to EMS and his community.”

Dr. Grow graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his residency training at the Mayo Clinic. Before joining CarePoint, he spent time as an Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Instructor and a Flight Physician at the Mayo Clinic.
